Advances in Diabetes Research and Management

Abstract

Diabetes is characterized by unusually elevated blood glucose or levels of sugar. Dietary glucose is produced, and insulin is the hormone that aids glucose entry into cells to provide energy. The occurrence of type 1 diabetes occurs when insulin production does not take place in the body, and type 2 diabetes happens when the body does not appropriately utilize insulin. Persistent abnormal functions and continuous injury to vital organs such as eyes, blood vessels, nerves, kidneys, and heart are the foremost characteristic features of chronic diabetes. Genes related to diabetes risk include TCF7L2, which distress insulin secretion and glucose production. The development of diabetes is mainly associated with various pathogenic processes. In recent years, the prevalence of diabetes and cancer has risen dramatically. Obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, smoking, and aging are frequent hazard issues for diabetes and cancer. According to a large body of epidemiological data, diabetes is a self-governing risk factor for amplified rates of several types of cancer incidence and death. People with diabetes slightly increase the incidence and mortality of several malignancies, namely, pancreatic, liver, colorectal, breast, endometrial, and bladder cancers.
