Abstract
“Diabetes management” is a collective word given to various plans and measures taken in order to maintain glucose homeostasis. Hyperglycemia is one of the socioeconomic problems that has become prevalent globally. Lifestyle modifications and the lack of physical activities lead to the development of a hyperglycemic condition termed diabetes mellitus. This disorder is associated with comorbidities such as retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy, and cardiovascular diseases. Thus, the management of this disorder has become a hectic event. The era of insulin discovery lighted up the path for diabetes management. The pre-insulin discovery period recorded a number of mortality cases due to diabetes. However, the discovery of insulin reduced the mortality cases and extended patient lifetimes. Yet strategies in diabetes management and insulin administration were painful. In the last few decades, a number of treatment options and strategies were made to implement pain-free diabetes management. Many innovative user-friendly methods for insulin administration are being made to comfort users. The innovations made in the mode of administration and technological development paved the way for the introduction of pain-free methods for insulin administration, like microneedle, transdermal patches, chemical permeation enhancers, sonophoresis, iontophoresis, electroporation, and vesicle formation. This chapter focuses on the transformation of painful strategies in diabetes management for the pain-free, blissful management of diabetes.
